Expressions of Life
Chris Powell loves dark chocolate and enjoys every second in which the delectable morsel slowly melts and dispenses its wonderful flavor. She loves creating Art even more and is thrilled to discover what one can do with art materials and an idea. Either capturing the personality and characteristics in a portrait, depicting the power or serenity of water, or finding humanity in figure drawing, Chris' paintings express the strength, sensitivity and excitement of life.

As a graduate of the Schuler School of Fine Art, a participant in various workshops and conferences and an art instructor for thirty-nine years, Chris is always striving for excellence in technique, expression and content.

She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America and the Maryland Pastel Society of which she has served as President, Treasurer and Recording Secretary at various times. She has joined the Towson Artists Group to study, appreciate and draw the human figure.

Among her awards are Best in Show at the Shades of Pastel 2002 Exhibition, a finalist in The Pastel Journal "The Pastel 100" 2000 Competition and a finalist in The Artist's Magazine National Portrait Competition 1989. However, the best award for Chris is clients' smiles and excitement when gazing upon their very own original painting by Chris Powell. It is as delightful as a sumptuous piece of dark chocolate yet twice as delicious.
